About the course
The 100-hectare/247-acre estate of Château de la Bawette Golf Club is situated in the lovely private grounds of the elegant Hardy de Beaulieu family seat. Tom McAuley, President in Office of the British Association of Golf Course Architects designed the course to take full advantage of the topography of the land, which offered all the natural hazards required by an international standard golf course, skilfully preserving the harmony of the typical Walloon Brabant landscape with its flowing succession of vales, pools and thickets of varied, century-old trees. In the midst of this luxuriant nature, greens, fairways and fine sand bunkers merge and blend with meadows, parkland and splashes of undergrowth. Emerging gradually on to the links and past the school, players first come to "Les Champs", the first level nine-hole links. A perfect training course for beginners, it nonetheless remains a firm favourite with more seasoned players who find it more open but sufficiently taxing to test their progress. Further on through the trees, the eighteen-hole course"Le Parc" is both more varied and technically more demanding, while remaining a pleasure to play. A never failing challenge to even the most exacting player, it has been rated among the top links by the golfing press. The Château de la Bawette Golf Club is one of the very few to treat golfing systematically. Its own private school sited in the very centre of the links, offers beginners the perfect opportunity to discover the pleasures of golf with the minimum waste of time and effort. And the ideal spot for seasoned players to perfect their skills. Under magnificently capacious, almost translucent white canvas awnings forming an elegant contrast with the surrounding parkland, 14 sheltered tees overlook a 220 metres/241 yards deep driving range. This vast canvas "umbrella" was designed by architect J.R. van Hufflen, who used state-of-the-art technologies to combine the subtle play of light and shade with the more practical aspect of providing players with the maximum protection from the vagaries of the weather. The clubhouse is as much a pleasure as golfing itself. A noteworthy building designed and built with clean contemporary lines which are the hallmark of the renowned "Atelier de Genval" studio. Overlooking the 18th and 9th greens, its huge bay windows gaze over the gently rolling fairways, while all its facilities were designed with the comfort of members in mind: a restaurant bathed in natural light, a bridge room, drawing rooms with open fireplaces, superbly appointed locker rooms and a well-stocked proshop. The Château de la Bawette Golf Club offers flexible and accommodating membership arrangements: transferrable and non-transferrable admission fees, special membership terms for companies and non-Belgian nationals resident in Belgium, reduced admission fees for juniors and weekday members.
