About the course

The club has one eighteen-hole regulation course and one nine-hole course measuring 1,427 metres/1,560 yards, par 29. In the foothills of the Puy-de-Dôme mountain range, on 800 metres/2,624 feet above sea level, the golf club de Volcans offers a fantastic course amidst pine and birch trees in the heart of the mountain range in the volcano park of the Auvergne region. The course was already established at the beginning of the 80s. The course is planted with young birch trees and pines and might favour the longhitters. On the Volcans course there are no water hazards. But you have be aware of the trees bordering the fairways. The first 6 holes are a good test of your physical condition. On the 7th hole, a long par 4 of 329 metres/360 yards the tee shot should be well calculated to use the difference in altitude and thus gain length and possibly achieve par. The 8th and the 9th hole, a par 3 and par 4, both well-protected by bunkers, are uphill and often you have to play against the wind. The holes 10, 11, 12 and 13 require more technical skill, but also offer the most magnificent view of the many lava streams. The most spectacular hole on the course, however, is the start-off at the 14th hole, with a tee overhanging the fairway and a view of the «Puy-de-Dôme», the «Forez» mountain and the surrounding woods. This breathtaking beauty of the landscape should not make you forget that this par 5 is running downhill which demands a wellplaced tee shot to reach the green with two shots. Immediately after follows another par 5 with a left dogleg and which also requires a well placed shot. Hole number 17 is the shortest on the course of only 139 metres/152 yards, but with a difficult approach and putt. This course offers a very pleasurable and exciting game.
