About the course
Arriving at Glasson prepare to be overwhelmed by the panoramic view of Lough Ree and the natural amphitheatre of the last 6 holes. Ryder Cup star Christy O'Connor Jr. has designed the course to reward the well played shot, however, a stray shot will be treated with the contempt it deserves. The two gentle opening holes may lure the unsuspecting golfer into a false sense of security for which he will be duly punished at the 3rd - a 200 yard/180 metre par 3 to a plateau green. The green is well-guarded with sand bunkers and one might be forgiven for failing to notice the spectacular view of Lough Ree while concentrating on escaping this hole with a par. The final three holes on the front nine can also steal shots from the over confident, especially the 8th with water waiting to the left of the green. There can be no doubt that the 15th will become one of the most photographed par 3's in Irish golf with both the tee, and the green pushed out into Lough Ree. The natural beauty of the reed beds and perfectly arranged stone work defining the green. It has been known to make the mind swim and the golf ball sink into the crystal clear waters of Lough Ree. Ryder Cup star Christy O'Connor Jr. has incorporated in the design rewards for the well played shot, however anything astray at the wrong hole will be treated with the contempt it deserves. Whether you have broken par or failed to break 100, as you leave the 18th green, stop and take a moment to reflect on 'The Glasson Experience'. Stand and look out over majestic Lough Ree, breathe the cool fresh air, forget your score and join your fellows in the manor house for some relaxing refreshments. The Manor House was the Reid's family home, a beautiful and stylish period residence and although a major extension has been added, none of the atmosphere has been lost. Tom and Breda have added luxurious changing facilities, state of the art bars and dining rooms. The whole ambience created is one of welcome, comfort and style. It is just the type of relaxing atmosphere needed to complete your golfing day. Golf packages are available. (An Apart-Hotel is in planning stages (opening 1998 golfing season). Other amenities include: Conference facilities. Horse riding, sailing, cruising may be arranged. Courses nearby: Athlone, Tullamore, Mullingar.
