About the course
Located on the northern entrance to Marrakesh, just above the historical bridge spanning the Qued Tensif River, Le Golf de la Palmeraie (palm grove) fits perfectly into the wonderful residential complex of the Jardins de la Palmeraie. Stretching out above the northern part of the residential complex, the golf links are not encumbered with an excessive quantity of buildings as is very often the case. No other than the great Robert Trent Jones Sr., the world's most famous architect, the man with the 500 links, could be appointed to carry out such an impressing undertaking amid century-old palm trees opposite the snow-covered peaks of the High Atlas mountains, and where fairways, greens, white sand bunkers and lakes blend together in perfect harmony. This course is the third links designed by Robert Trent Jones in Morocco (he also built Dar Es-Salam Royal Golf Club, Rabat, 45 holes). Several wide lakes heighten all the more the technical difficulties of some holes and create a striking contrast with the desert neighbourhood. Some of the signficant holes: The 9th is the most exciting drive on the outward - there is water all along on the right and a group of palm trees on a level with the dogleg at 225 metres/250 yards from the back tees. One is tempted to try a flyover with a very good drive, but should you fail to do so, the penalty stake could be high. The entrance of the green is flat and open despite the bunker on the left and the lake on the right. This is a very good hole from the start line up to the green. The 15th, both short and complicated - a par 4, that tempts the golfers to take risks from the onset, yet a hole which is better handled carefully. At 235 metres/255 yards on the men's departure, the green can be reached with the drive, but every metre here is played on water. A blind neck of the lake penetrates the fairway, thus making it preferable to use an iron 2 or a wood 4 for the drive. The green is narrow yet very long, with three bunkers on the left. In the heart of the links stands the magnificent Moorish styled clubhouse with ochre walls and green tiles, a place reflecting the fascinating aspect of the national architecture, with its restaurant and terraces facing the Atlas mountain range. Other amenities include: Minigolf, bowling, tennis, squash, horse riding, fitness centre (hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, massage, body-building) 5 swimming pools. Conference facilities include 7 rooms. Courses nearby: Royal Golf Marrakesh Amelkis (20 mins drive).
