About the course
Sotogrande, located in the province of Cádiz, is 3,400 acres/8,395 acres of rolling grassland and forest of cork trees rising gently from one of the Mediterranean's fine beaches to the foothills of the «Sierra de Almenara». The «Guadiaro» river winds its way through the Sotogrande delta. The name Sotogrande is a combination of the two Spanish words "soto", a riverside meadow abundant with trees and other vegetation, and "grande". The Club de Golf Sotogrande, with its two golf courses, has come to be known as one of the top ten in Europe. Both the eighteen-hole championship course and its accompanying par-three links were designed and built by Robert Trent Jones, this being his first course in Europe. The imported Bermuda grass of its fairways, in which there is practically no rough, make the playing surface of these courses a delight as well as a challenge. Trent Jones once described a golf course as a battleground: "The players attack the course, and it's the architects's obligation to defend it". And to defend Sotogrande he has, by means of strategically placed bunkers, water hazards and the general layout of the course itself. Therefore, when you step out onto the first tee, prepare to assume the offensive. Other amenities include: Swimming pool, tennis courts. Courses nearby: Valderrama, La Duquesa, Alcaidesa, San Roque.
