  About the course

La Cala Resort is no longer merely a golf and country club, it is a top class golf resort which offers holidaymakers luxurious accommodation with equal emphasis placed on facilities for the golfers and the non-golfer. The resort has two eighteen-hole courses, the South and the North Course, that satisfy all senses and challenge players to test all their abilities while at the same time enable them to experience nature at its best and give them a sense of well-being and enjoy magnificent views over this wild region. The North Course: On first playing this course, a player is likely to leave the last green with conflicting emotions; frustration at not being able to handle what, at first sight, looked fairly easy and delightful impressions of seldom experienced golf architecture. Because of the montaineous terrain you are well advised to use a buggy. The general relief of the "North" poses importance on the right choice of club. Dangerous rough, large and deep bunkers defending the well-contoured greens make this a course for match-play. Don't think of your scores when you first play the course, just take it as a reconnaissance round (maybe you need another one). The South Course: The "Sur" gives the impression being less long and more forgiving. But the greens, to a big part with steep slopes, call for a sharp short shots and some imagination. intuition. To really enjoy yourself on this tarrific course don't think too much of your scorecard, take things as they come - and tomorrow there is another chance. Both courses are extremely demanding so beginners are well advised to train before their round on the excellent practice facilities. The aim of the resort is to combine the best aspects of an American country club with Spanish charm and hospitality. La Cala is not like other clubs and does not intend to be either. It has a special atmosphere, is a modern project in harmony with nature and aims to be an international club that has adopted influences of around the world: the U.S., South America, Ireland and the Scandinavian countries. The courses are excellently maintained, with their Tifway 419 hybrid bermuda grass fairways and their Pencross greens - which tend to be fast. The proshop is one of the biggest and best-stocked in Spain, with a team of professionals looking after all golfers' needs. Some people, in fact, consider the 19th hole more important than the first eighteen, and they will not be disappointed at La Cala. The clubhouse, apart from its architecture and charm, which complement the golf courses perfectly. Meanwhile, a cold beer on the terrace overlooking the 18th green of the South course will cool even the hottest golfing nerves, while lunch at the restaurant (anything from home-cooked Spanish cuisine to Scandinavian specialities) will soon make memories of those lost balls and three-putts fade away. Spain's only Leadbetter Golf Academy lies at an even dizzier altitude along the road and is part of the La Cala complex. Other amenities include: Indoor swimming pool, squash, tennis, games rooms. Courses nearby: Mijas. Alhaurin. Lauro.
