About the course
Set in 175 acres/71 hectares of spectacular countryside, an oasis of piece and tranquillity with unrivalled facilities not only for golfers, but for all sports and health enthusiasts. The course is the first pay and play course in Europe by Nicklaus Design. The challenging and beautiful holes which vary from 'thought provoking' to 'hazardous', meander through woodland copses, lakes and spinneys and are a home to an abundance of wildlife. The front nine is the more aesthetically pleasing of the two, winding as it does through mature woodland, and you reach the turn via the glorious par 3 9th where the area from tee to green consists of water, water and even more water. The Hertfordshire course is rated #9 of "The Top 10 New Courses" in the British Isles", opened since January 1994, Golf World International 11/96. It is complemented by a superb academy which includes a 30 bay Wilson floodlit driving range enabling golfers to learn and improve the skills of the game. Whilst many of The Hertfordshire's facilities are available to non-members, it pays to be a member. The clubhouse, a magnificent mansion re-built in 1882, and now restored to its former glory is a fine example of the Elizabethan era. It includes a first class restaurant, spike bar, lounge, health club, spacious changing rooms and function suites for business and private entertaining. There will also be a children's play area and crèche. The club offers a unique venue for any occasion and the chance to relax and enjoy the finest food in La Brasserie, the informal colonial style restaurant. It is open to members and non-members for lunch and dinner six days a week. La Brasserie also caters for weddings, conferences, business meetings and golfing societies. Menues are tailored to suit your needs, leave the organising to the club's staff and they will make sure that your day at Hertfordshire is perfect. Other amenities include: The private, members only health & fitness club is contained within the Listed Mansion, situated on the first floor. The main exercise rooms with their high decorative ceilings and detailed woodwork, have the advantage of magnificent views over the course. Furnished with the most up-to-date exercise, cardiovascular and resistance equipment, the club provides outstanding gymnasium and work-out facilities. If this is all too energetic for you why not pamper yourself and relax in the treatment rooms. Limited memberships are available, offering many club benefits and discounted treatments. Other sports activities are planned from 1998/99, indoor tennis center, indoor swimming pool.
