About the course
Bowood golf ccourse opened in summer 1992 is set inmidst 230 acres/92 hectares of rolling hills and woodlands. The site was, at on etime, the oldest Deer Park in Cornwall, hunting ground of the Black Prince, a fact comemoreated by incorporationg his heraldry i the club's coat of arms. Mentioned in the Doomesday Book the historic Bowood was in ideal setting for this challenging golf course. The course has two distinct loops: the outward nine holes meander around gently rolling hills, that overlook the clubhouse; the homeward half follows a beautiful tranquil valley that is bordered by the River Allen and in the shadow of the historic Bowood and the ancient church of Lanteglos, forming a backdrop to the 12th hole. The development took three years to complete and has been constructed to USGA specification under the guuidance of E.B. Connaughton of G.T.I. to provide all yera round playing conditions. No temporary winter greens here! The superb ffairways and large greens are complimented by the numerous waster features that play a major part in determining the golfers' playing strategy. The owner's objective was to produce a superb golf course, whilst retaining the natural features of the land and to encourage a wildlife inhabitat. West Country based JSB Associates and B.T. Jenkins have achieved the owner's objectives and in February 1995 Bowood received Golf Monthly's Gold Course Award. Bowood golf course has been consstructed within the old Deer Park. Imagine geing able to live in the heart of teh course, surrounded by the undulating parkland. Houses are available - built to your own specifications - with membership of the golf club also available. Courses nearby: Trevose, St. Enodoc, Launceston.
