About the course
Originally designed by the former Ryder Cup player Brian Huggett it is a really exceptional layout and fits very naturally into the rolling Somerset countryside. The eighteen holes of the Park Course have been built through idyllic parkland on the northern boundary of the Orchardleigh Estate. Unlike so many new developments, the maturity of the huge oak trees and chestnuts give the impression that the golf course has been around for centuries. Orchardleigh is rated #10 of "The Top 10 New Courses" in the British Isles", opened since January 1994, Golf World International 11/96. The condition of the course is also first-class. The greens have been sown with American bent grasses under the watchful eye of Craig Cooke, formerly Valderrama's consultant agronomist, to give flavour of Augusta. As well as the 9th, which is a terrific uphill par 5 of 566 yards/517 metres, the feature holes are - appropriately enough - the final two. The 17th, a 175 yards/160 metres par 3, has a dramatic five-foot (1.5 metre) dip in the green as if someone has taken a big bite out of it, which makes it essential to fire at the pin on your tee shot. And the 18th is a magnificent par 4, with water all down the right on the approach. Water is on seven of the holes. Orchardleigh is the perfect venue to entertain your clients on corporate and society days. The professional staff helps all golfers from complete beginners to the very best. A warm welcome greets everyone who steps inside the newly built clubhouse, with its well stocked proshop, bar and restaurant. For details of Membership please contact the club. You will spend a great golfing day at Orchardleigh.
