About the course
Open November 2000, the Nicklaus Golf Club at Birch River is a Jack Nicklaus designed par 72 championship track, and is located about an hour northeast of Atlanta. This links-style course is relatively open, and plays alongside the Chestatee River, crossing it seven times. The fifth hole is played entirely on an island surrounded by the river. The fairways are generally flat and have some roll to them. The medium-sized greens are undulated and moderate in speed. Water comes into play on sixteen holes. This course plays from 4,992 to 6,937-yards, and there are four sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. The Nicklaus Golf Club at Birch River is a semi-private facility, offering memberships allowing public play as well. For additional information call (706) 867-7900 or go to www.nicklausgolfbirchriver.com. Signature Hole: 5 - #5 is a 177-yard, island par 3. This hole borders the Chestatee River, and a low to mid iron shot is recommended to reach the green. The green is protected by hollows to the right and left. Par is considered a good score when the pin is cut on the small plateau at the back middle of this green.
