This course features tree-lined fairways and slightly-sloped greens that are well bunkered. Each hole is named after a sea captain. In 1986, this course was rated as the "Best New Public Course" in the U.S. by "Golf Digest." In addition, "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 3rd among the "Top 75 Public Courses" in the state for 1990, and 70th under the category of "America's Top 75 Affordable Courses" in their 1996 list of "America's Best Golf Courses Everyone Can Play."
