About the course
This shotmaker's course was formerly a sand quarry. It has very narrow fairways and well-manicured greens that are fast, and several of them are island greens. Water hazards come into play on five holes, including #12, a 167-yard, par 3, featuring an island green. Some holes were built with the classical Pinehurst style in mind, featuring rolling fairways bordered by pine trees. "Golf Digest" ranked it 47th among the "Top 75 Public Courses" for 1990. "GOLF Magazine" ranked hole #8, a 480-yard, par 5, as "One of the Best 50 Golf Holes in America" that are open to the public." "Golf Digest" voted hole #4, a 232-yard, par 3, as one of "The Best 18 Holes You Can Play" for 1997. This hole has no bunkers but tree trunks and pine needles are perched on surrounding mounds, so there are plenty of hazards for the errant tee shot to encounter. Golf carts are required on weekends.
