About the course
Newport National Golf Club features a championship 18-hole course designed by architect Arthur Hills and Drew Rogers, the Orchard Course, as it is known, opened for play in June, 2002. The orchard Course is relatively open, with few trees lining the fairways. The greens are large and fast. Constructed over land formerly home to shrub and tree nurseries, the course offers spectacular views of The Sakonnet Passage, Atlantic Ocean and Narragansett Bay. Newport National's proximity to so much water makes it ideal for links style golf, and the layout is reminiscent of the great links courses of Ireland. The constantly shifting sea breezes will be a major factor in play. The Orchard Course plays from 5,217 to 7,244-yards and there are four sets of tees to challenge all skill levels. For additional information call the pro shop at (401) 848-9690 or visit the club online at www.newportnational.com.
