About the course

This resort, which was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1998 list of "Silver Medal Resorts," features four outstanding eighteen hole courses.

The Turtle Point Course is the longest of the four Kiwah Island Resort courses and features tree-lined fairways and numerous lagoons coming into play. This course is highlighted by three spectacular oceanside holes. The fairways are narrow, and the small greens are well-bunkered.

The signature hole is #15, a 412-yard, par 4, requiring shots up a narrow fairway lined on the left side by the Atlantic Ocean and sand dunes, and a prevailing southeast wind can also create problems.

Opened in 1981, Turtle Point has a low profile design that takes advantage of the island's natural contours and dune ridges. The course flows seamlessly through interior forests of hardwoods and palmettos, along backwater lagoons and finally to three spectacular holes along the Atlantic Ocean. Subtle greens demand a keen eye and deft touch. The course has hosted many amateur and professional tournaments including the 1990 PGA Cup Matches. A new grand clubhouse, built in the style of the classic antebellum mansions of the region, will open late-summer of 2001. The head golf professional at Turtle Point is Ronnie Miller. Current green fees are $145 outside and $120 for guests of the resort.

Golf Packages are available, and you may make your tee time reservations when making your hotel accommodations. The green fees for each of the five courses are seasonal and subject to change several times throughout the year. Guests may stay in villas overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, lagoons, tennis courts or the fairways. The villas include complete kitchens. There is the ultra-luxury oceanfront hotel and spa, The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island. Amenities and activities include tennis, bike rides, nature tours, kayak tours and 10-mile-long private beach. Dining is available at 9 different facilities across the resort. For more information or reservations call (800) 654-2924 or (843) 768-2121.
